Thanks Jock for posting this video. I spent four afternoons flying with G Dale in 2012 and this is typical of his lessons in soaring, worth the watch and recommend purchasing his two books "The Soaring Engine" available from Wings and Wheels.

I flew with him for 5 days at Omarama. It was unforgettable.

The attachment Mountyain Flying Omarama 1.jpeg is no longer available
During my house arrest, I have been cleaning up some of the papers on my desk, and in timely fashion, I found this account of my Mountain Flying course in Omarama, but I could not find the original files (Thanks, One Drive), so I scanned these two pages and post them here (can't seem to get the files to follow the post...

I was surprised G. made no mention of his many years at Omarama, in his introduction. Also regarding Omarama, which is supposedly closed by the intrusive government regulations, Gavin Wills, writes on the Glide Omarama website.

"Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Glide Omarama has closed down all its Trial Flights until at least 1st September when the currently situation hopefully will have eased."

The website continues to exist https://www.glideomarama.com/trial-flights/ with the encourgaement to contact them if interested ????

Convergence commonly occurs along Lake Erie, sometimes but less frequently along the edge of Lake Huron and sometimes along Georgian Bay. The strangest case is a southerly flow from the area between Collingwood and Wasaga Beach just off the edge of the escarpment. Some of our best soaring is when a light wind is blowing from the North/NorthWest. This is when the Erie convergence is good but tends to cut-off the areas close to Huron. So the trip up from Stratford to Hanover (or the reverse) can be hard work unless you stay inland. Beware the false cumulus closer to the lake!
