Lapel pins

Post by jwlemke » Tue Oct 02, 2018 9:42 am

I was hoping to find a Sailplane Lapel Pin somewhere but I'm not finding much.
SAC has something for $10 but there are no pictures of it. Has anyone seen it?
Any other suggestions of where to look?
TIA, Jim.

Consider wings as an alternative. Take a look at the ones we use for Freedom's Wings; there are some in the office. Martin Sanderse had them made for us.

Or see if Tom Knauff still sells jewellery. His store is www.eglider.org Or the SSA store www.ssa.org

SSA had a few but I ended up ordering the pin from SAC. I'll post a picture once I get it.

We paid ~$2.00 each for the Freedom's Wings pins. How about a York Soaring set of wings? Members, and a takeaway for intro flight guests...

Good idea! I agree that $10 is a bit stiff. One of the problems with making our own is that most places have a 50 piece minimum order, some higher. However, if someone can help with artwork, I'll see what I can arrange.

My daughter-in-law (now a former daughter-in-law) did the artwork for the FWC pins. Perhaps good old Roberto Centazzo for the artwork, and the shop Martin found for the manufacturer, and a check to see if they are indeed in the ~$2 apiece range, the club would pick up the initial order.

I don't see a method of posting either a photo of the FWC pins, or the artwork. They are gold-coloured metal with an enamel two-colour logo. But, worst case, I'd guess it would be easy to replace the FWC logo with one for YSA. Or the 'G' that designates a glider pilot.

BTW, do you have an e-mail address for Wayne Hewison? I need a language proficiency form filled out.

We have a 3d printers. If you have a rough idea send it to Cole at colebsax@gmail.com. He can clean it up and print a few for casing or approval if that helps.

Said he would be happy to help.

Thanks Bruce & Cole. I'm still waiting for a pin to arrive from SAC to see what it looks like. I'll be in touch.

I did eventually get a lapel pin from SAC. (The mail strikes slowed it down.) Here's a picture with a bottle cap for perspective..

It displays in landscape for some reason but if you click on the photo it displays properly in portrait mode.

Wear it with pride Jim, we glider pilots are a rare breed.
